Many are thought to be convective throughout the star, rather than having a distinct core like the Sun and higher-mass stars. This convection leads to activity such as sunspots and flares, and also means that the helium produced by fusion reactions does not accumulate at the centre. This means they can burn much more of their hydrogen than larger stars, and they are projected to live for trillions of years.
