Police prevent demonstrators from entering the court in Dessau-Rosslau, after the verdict against two German policemen was spoken on December 8, 2008. The policemen were acquitted in the case of Sierra Leonean asylum-seeker Oury Jalloh (or Jallow) who burned to death in a police cell in 2005. The case made the headlines as the victim allegedly set a mattress on fire with a cigarette lighter although is hands and feet were shackled to the bed. State prosecutors say he could have been saved if the police had acted fast enough to get him out of the cell, but that they repeatedly ignored a fire alarm.
