A demonstrator lights up a mattress on December 8, 2008 in Dessau-Rosslau to commemorate the death of a Sierra Leonean asylum-seeker who burned to death in a police cell in 2005. Two German policemen who went on trial over the death of Oury Jalloh (or Oury Jallow) were acquitted. The case made the headlines as the victim allegedly set a mattress on fire with a cigarette lighter although is hands and feet were shackled to the bed. State prosecutors say he could have been saved if the police had acted fast enough to get him out of the cell, but that they repeatedly ignored a fire alarm.
